Behind the Scenes photos!

This shoot was done at Belmont Racecourse, for some reason, they have loaded backwards so the first ones were the last shot we took. I love the way the models just dove into the food :")

So, bring on 2011 is the general cheer I can hear from the crowd - however how many people have already fallen off their resolution bandwagon. Ive been told it only takes 66 days to form a new habit...which is longer than I originally thought...

Oh well, back onto it, I want to share with you some images from the 2011 calendar making the rounds (although I'm yet to get my hands on some copies)

Fashion Styling in Perth

Here is the second half of the Nicky Minaj-inspired shoot. I love the one with fabric, I love the effect, I'm really impressed with how it turned out.

The reality of what happens at a shoot is all hidden when you are faced with such an awesome image. I'm very impressed, thanks Trav!

Love shoes? Love Dresses?

Having recently styled the latest leather collection for
Vangoh shoes I am happy to say this store is nothing short of impressive.
Catering to ladies of all ages in the time I was in the store (less than
20minutes) a girl in her early teens came in to buy some awesome sandals (it is
festival season guys!) and an elderly lady and her friend (think perhaps 60’s
or 70’s) came in to buy heels.

As all heels are not sky rocket high and many shoes are very
functional with the ability to walk around in them all day, it’s no wonder
everyone will find something they like in this store.

Located in Subiaco and owned by husband and wife team Raj
and Vanessa, their customer service is exceptional. Raj is often found ‘hanging
out’ in the store, offering customers chocolates, tea and coffee. I think he
does it simply because he likes to know his clientelle and genuinely does not
pressure you to buy anything, but rather just enjoy their relaxed atmosphere.

I really love the new season collection, and would happy own
any one of these shoes! We did the shoot down at Matilda Bay Restaurant (a big
thankyou to them as well) and used clothing from the fantastic EM clothing
store, located next door. Ladies, if you need an outfit for an event in the
near future, please make time to pick a great pair of shoes and an amazing
Australian designer cocktail dress.

I know I sound like I'm babbling in about how great they are
so they like me :) but in truth, so many people that walked in the store were
really impressed thankful, and would recommend the store to friends. I sent my
own mum there, before I had even been asked to style their leather collection, that’s
how much good feedback I had heard about their store. Cmon people, my own mum.

Anyway, I don’t have photos yet! And part of their website
seems to be lacking pictures so i cant share anything with you at this stage
other than a promise of an amazing advertorial!

Stay tuned, and in the meantime, go check out both Vangoh Shoes and Em Clothing.

Styling Work

I would like to share with you Part One of a Four Season shoot I am styling.

We have done half so far, and the other half to be done in a couple of
weeks.

This one is summer, mainly beauty shots, this shoot incorporates prop
styling more than wardrobe, you may remember me mentioning it here.

This was styled very carefully, and each stone and shell was thoughtfully places. I had a lot of tiny shells and coral which I asked Penny (our fantastic makeup artist) to stick on her face! Which, thank god, she was ok with and did really well.

This gives the crustacean vibe, and such a beachy feel which is classic Summer! The colours of her makeup, hair and the shells all had to coordinate, which I think they did with bronze, orange and beige tones.

Christmas Shoots, December Magazines

I have to share with you an amazing picture from a shoot I styled recently
– This was for Contraband Magazine.

This awesome centrefold was done with some torn fabric, some thick
Christmas ribbon and some Styrofoam.

This is a great creative piece, made from leftover packaging, some spare
fabric and ribbon – the cost was probably less than $20.

Creativity is such a big part of what I do, you have to be able to make
outfits, looks and images from almost nothing, and be able to work with what’s
on hand as well. Plenty of times, I have just looked around the studio for
props and clothing ideas and improvised on the spot!

Please click the image to  view it
in full size.

Big thanks to:

We also did the cover shot – it will look a little something like this;

Model Tip of the Day: Try a Wig!

Heres a sneak peak of a shoot I did last weekend – more photos to come.

This shoot was a Nicky Minaj inspired shoot – If you haven't seen photos
of her see below;

This is what we got from it. Big thanks to Sandra Lepri – the MUA, who got
this fantastic wig! It really makes so much difference.

I would really encourage models who have a lot of ‘sameness’ in their
ports to try this. A wig can make a huge difference, different colour drastically
different length, and shows you can do a range of looks.

Remember a model has to be versatile, and if a part comes up – models with
a huge range of styles / looks are much more likely to get the part. Many times
I have gone through models to choose from, and your portfolio is what makes the
decision as to whether you get the job or not! This is like your photographic
resume – you can get turned away if your pictures are “too girly” or “too
tomboyish” however, if we* think you can pull it off, you’ll get the job.

*We being the photographer involved & I, or other organisers.
