Animal Print :)

I love the new styles of animal print we are seeing pop up everywhere, as once again animal print gains some popularity like giraffe and these Dalmation shoes!:

I am wearing a giraffe print snood today and feeling pretty pleased with myself :)

Also - I recently bought a leopard print sunnies case but in green - a good way of incorporating animal print without looking too over the top. Also a great way of playing up neutral colours a bit more and making them more edgy / dressed up.

Glitzy Sequin Inspiration

There's something about sequins that used to be so trashy...so over-the-top sparkly. I love how sequins now translate into daywear even and small simple sequins can glitz up an evening and make you feel so much more glamourous. I love sequins. Here are a few inspiring pictures I found :)

These pictures suit ever kind of girl. Glamorous, rock chick, indie, etc etc, collectively, they appeal to everyone!

What to wear this holiday season ...

Just thought I would share with you a Happy Holidays editorial I styled a little while ago.

Bring on 2011 with a lot more challenges, work and new projects and people :)

x

Dress up simple jersey dresses, or plain colours with a metallic or fancy headpiece in a similar colour.

Add texture: add some fur (faux), some slick leather, some thick cashmere, summer is all about cotton which gets very boring very quickly. Change it up!

Get festive. Its ok, you can get away with sequins, sparkles and tassels as they are all so much more mainstream now. Feel free to go get a cocktail dress that looks like you fell in a pot of glitter. Just make sure you let the dress speak for itself and dont load up on accessories. Simple plain black ankle boots offset this perfectly.

Go Christmasy. OK so maybe this post is a little late, but dont be scared to dress head to toe in white, red and black for the Christmas / holiday season, although I would advise against green! Try silver or gold instead.

Try 'Parisian'. This trend will stay strong as lady;like silhouettes and classic style will always be popular. Lace is still a good item to be wearing, and its well worth your while to get some lace items to add to your wardrobe.  This trend will come and go so dont splurge.

Fashion Colour Forecast

Want to know what colours are going to be red-hot? (That was funny,
because red is a colour)

Pantone has released their Spring 2011 fashion colour report.

Pantone is the most universally recognised colour system, so you know
they're totally on the ball here.

Honeysuckle.

Spring  / Summer, this is a
watermelon looking colour, perfect for bright sunny days (Bring on the good
weather!) Very girly but can be playful if worn right at any age.

Regatta.

Blues are widely loved. The first ranking colour with men, and second highest
colour with women. You can't go wrong, this blue is also calming as well as
bright. I love this blue, I would recommend trying it in smaller sections,
depending on your skin tone. i.e. don’t bust out pants in this hue. *
clown alert*

Coral Rose.

I personally am not a fan or orange, I don’t like it, I don’t wear it
much, and this colour comes far too close. However, orange is associated with
energy and a lot of people suit this coral tone. People with warm skin tones
can wear this every which way, tops scarves jewellery, this is set to be a big
colour, with designers already playing around with this daring, un-rhyming*,  striking colour.

*You haven't heard that nothing rhymes with the word orange?

Beeswax.

Yellows are getting more and more popular, originally quite a hard colour
to wear, as it can drain your face of colour, this yellow isn’t acidic, it has
a warmer tone and 13% of designers used this colour.

Peapod.

Green is also one that people tend to stay away from. A cross between
pastel green and an extension of the khaki / military trend that’s hanging
around, this colour is bound to be quite popular. Because of this military trend,
people have learnt green can work well as a neutral if teamed with browns,
greys and blacks.  It fits in well with
the colour palette and this soft shade will work well in keeping with the creams,
nudes and pastels trend.

Blue Curacao.

Is it just me or does this make you think of alcohol? This is a cross
between the teal / turquoise and the previous blue, not as bright, can be worn
much more easily in large segments and by any age. This is also working with
the pastel trend, but embraces the brightness of spring!

Russet.

This colour is a very warm tone. Brown was originally quite a dull and
disliked colour but it's warm tones and ability to be matched with so many other
colours, also as a good alternative to black has made it more popular. This colour
can keep in with the nude trend as well, as many different skin tones are
present, with some darker women opting to wear browns and dark corals and musky
pink / brown, this works well.

Silver Peony.

Do I need to say it again? Nudes, creams pastels, this trend is going to
be big. A Peony by the way, is a flower, so this is a romantic colour, very
feminine.

Lavender.

People is a creative colour, it’s a combination of red and blue which are
opposites, so it's a very interesting colour. Not worn very often, regal purple is
associated with royalty. This pastel colour however (yes, pastels again) is a
softer version that is much more adaptable.

Silver Cloud.

Where would we be without silver? Unless worn in metallic, this soft
colour is grey, a great neutral and a good colour to offset with another
pastel, or any of the colours you can see above. I wear a LOT of grey, another
great alternative to black which can often be quite heavy and morbid. With the
pastel and nude trend being very popular, its best to wear a grey with it as
your base colour to complete the look without looking like walking fairly floss!

London Fashion Week - Sass & Bide

Sass & Bide have just finished showing at London Fashion Week, another
big step for these designers and two best friends, Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi
Middleton.

Their collection impressed at usual, combining all the upcoming trends
right now.

See below for a preview of what their S/S 10/11 collection comprised of.

They tuned in to the Military trend, adding khaki and some structured
looks and tops.

They have also embraced the digital print trend which is getting bigger
and bigger and hopefully we will see much more of this in Oz this season. I'm
really feeling it :)

Some more classic Sass& Bide stuff;

They have also used a very big trend this season – draping. Soft folds and
draping tops and dresses, perfect for many body types, really flattering and slimming.

Mini Trend;

A trend you should get your hands on before it dies is >>>
Velvet.

For those of you who just cringed or screwed up your nose in disgust, just
as I first did when this hit runways, never fear. There is a way you can work this
without looking like you hail from some Indian noble family.

(Velvet originated
in Kashmir in India).

Of course velvet was associated with royalty and a lot of people don’t
know how to wear it on a day to day basis.

The best way, of course to wear any trend, is keep it simple. Wear a
jacket or a skirt. Make sure you limit it to one item in your outfit, rather
than wearing say, a velvet jumpsuit. If that’s still too much for you, try
velvet accessories. Sounds strange, but I'm not talking about sunnies. Try some
velvet shoes, in hot pink or teal or brown, (which I have seen, you can get
them at Betts, and they look amazing!) Or even black, have a look at a few
below, in case you’re still thinking, “I'm not draping velvet over my feet you
crazy woman!”

Also, velvet clutch bags are pretty cool, just don’t get an over the
shoulder, long strapped bag. It either looks like your Nan’s old library bag or
like you’re trying to be a hippie. (Disregard this, of course, if you intend on
looking like a hippie). Go for a clutch or something small and unobtrusive. You
could always try a brooch as well, pin it on top of a plain dress or try a
headband or a velvet flower in your hair.

Get something you can wear again, wear with multiple items (jackets or
blazers are a great staple wardrobe item). For those who are not radical
dressers, steer clear of velvet pants, but a soft draping skirt will work.

Ive searched around and found some inspirational photos to help you out as
well.
