PFF Press Release Update!


WA design talent gears up for Student Runway 2012 September 12, 2012



The next generation of Western Australian fashion talent will be
showcasing their designs at the forthcoming Perth Fashion Festival (PFF)
Student Runway on Sunday, 23 September at Fashion Paramount.


The
Student Runway event will feature 60 of Western Australia’s top fashion
design students from Curtin University, Central Institute of
Technology, Polytechnic West, Challenger Institute of Technology, Edith
Cowan University and Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.


All
six institutions nominated five students in each of the following
categories; ready-to-wear women’s, ready-to-wear men’s, eco-design,
contemporary evening-wear and costume couture.


An industry
judging panel consisting of stylist Teagan Sewell, designer Lisa Chau,
Emma Bergmeier from All of the Above Creative and Tu Boutique owner Ann
nie Chong, will select the winning entries across the five different
categories.


PFF Director, Mariella Harvey-Hanrahan
said she is looking forward to seeing this year’s group of students present.


“Student
Runway offers a wonderful opportunity to WA’s aspiring fashion
designers and this year the Liz Davenport Student Runway Scholarship
means the top student will have a once in a lifetime opportunity with
one of WA’s most influential and successful designers,” Ms
Harvey-Hanrahan said.


The top student will win a scholarship to
the value of $2,000 provided by much-loved and esteemed WA designer, Liz
Davenport. 2012 will be the first year for the Liz Davenport Student
Runway Scholarship. The lucky scholarship winner will also receive a
month long mentorship at Liz’s studio in 2013 and each individual
category winner will receive a $500 voucher and a sewing machine from
Spotlight.


A prelude to this year’s event will be the debut
collection from the 2011 Carton designers, Samuel Donaldson, Jessica
Hogg and Nicole Marrington who have been designing thei
r garments in The Carton studio at Carillon City.


The winners
will be announced at Student Runway being held at Fashion Paramount,
Hackett Hall, Western Australian Museum on Sunday 23 September at
6:30pm.
